What is TEDx?

Due to its popularity in recent years, we think everybody knows what a TED Talk is and what it is about. To do a short recap, TED is an acronym for Technology Entertainment and Design. And, it is a recorded public-speaking presentation originally given at the main TED annual event. Its main goal is to foster the spread of innovative ideas. It aims to provide a platform for thinkers, visionaries and teachers so that people around the globe can gain a better understanding of the world we live in. There is no limitation on what topics are presented at these events, the most important thing is that those speeches are based on ideas that can inspire or are worth spreading.

But what about TEDx?

While TED is organized exclusively by the TED Foundation, TEDx is an independent local gathering that can be held by any organization that has obtained a TEDx license. These events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis. The content and design of each TEDx event is unique and developed independently, but all of them have features in common.

TEDx Tirgu Mures

Each TEDx event is different, and they vary in size. 2022 came with a big challenge for TEDx Tirgu Mures since they, starting this year, managed to get their Community Plus license. Having this new license opens up new doors, and the event can grow past 100 people. Thus, this year there were almost 500 participants.

To celebrate this new achievement, the event was held at the Palace of Culture in Targu Mures, a landmark built in 1913. The astonishing architecture of the building embodied the perfect atmosphere for this year’s topic “Creative Minds”.

Creative Minds

“Although we are more likely to combine creativity with art, did you think about what would happen if we would bring creativity into our daily activities? What could we achieve working and living creatively, eventually bringing closer something that’s drifted away from our fast-paced life? For us, creativity is the greatest rebellion in existence. What does it mean for you? And what does it mean to the creative minds we invited to be our speakers?”

What does creativity mean? What is a creative mind? Why creativity should be present in our daily lives? A lot of questions were raised and at first, before attending this event, we couldn’t give ourselves an answer.

Speakers from all kinds of o fields, from photographers to hat designers and even mentalists, came and presented their views on this topic.

During this event, we learned that creativity is not just about drawing, painting or writing. It’s also about being able to think out of the box and be open to new experiences. In other words, it is a way of thinking that allows us to see things differently from what we usually do. In other words, as one of the speakers said, “Creativity is about solving problems in a manner that nobody thought of”.

For us, a creative mind is a mind that has the ability to do something different from what others do and it is not bound by strict rules or regulations. It has the ability to challenge the status quo and create something new out of old ideas.
